A Comprehensive, Curated Hong Kong Sound Effects Library

Recorded in early 2023, this library contains iconic, instantly recognisable Hong Kong sounds – a pedestrian crossing bleeping rhythmically against the hum of the city, the bell of the tram that goes “ding ding” as it passes, the intense chorus of black-collared starlings during sunset hours as you pass through a park.

Construct an accurate and genuine soundscape of Hong Kong with a full range of urban and suburban atmospheres, and sprinkle on carefully curated details like metro and bus PA announcements, car and boat passes, and individual voices chatting away.

- 5 modes of public transport: MTR (Metro), Tram, Bus, Minibus, Taxi – vehicles recorded onboard and as exterior car passes
- 8 types of common birds
- Cantonese-speaking crowd recordings from wet/dry and street markets, restaurants to children’s playground
- Ambiences from indoor and outdoor environments, traffic recorded at various elevations and different times
The Full edition contains 193+ sounds and a total duration of 3h 44mins while the Lite edition contains a selection of 50 sounds from the full library, with a duration of 1h 12mins

There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!

A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
